Suzanne lives in Middlesex, England with her husband, two children, a crazy cocker spaniel and a rather aloof cat. Her writing journey began at the age of twelve when she completed her first novel. She discovered the fantasy genre in her late teens and has never looked back. Now an author of four fantasy novels including the Silent Sea Chronicles trilogy and her debut fantasy, Visions of Zarua, Suzanne has also turned her hand to short stories. At last count, she has 4 books to her name including two feel-good Christmas collections. 2026 is the year she plans to publish her new romance series - The Mermaid Hotel Series - set in Cornwall with a matchmaking hotel owner. She loves gardening and has a Hebe (shrub) fetish. She enjoys cooking with ingredients from the garden and regularly feeds unsuspecting guests vegetable-based cakes. Suzanne collects books, is interested in history and enjoys wandering around castles and old ruins whilst being immersed in the past. She likes to combine her love of nature and photography on family walks, but most of all she loves to escape with a great film, binge watch TV shows, or soak in a hot bubble bath with an ice cream and a book.

This weekend Narratess has organised another huge indie books sale with hundreds of books on offer in the genres of fantasy, sci-fi and horror. This year the price point selected for most books is £1.99, though some are free and others £2.99. Here’s the link to check out the Indie book sale.

Celebrating the National Year of Reading 2026 with a bookstall! #indieauthor

This August Bank Holiday Monday I’ll be at a special summer fair held in my local high street, which is being run to celebrate the National Year of Reading 2026. As a local author I’ve been asked along to share my books on a book stall and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s been almost 3 years since I’ve taken part in anything like this, so let’s pray for good weather and even better footfall.

I’ve been busy preparing sample writing bags to give away, which includes free short story booklets, leaflets with details of the romance series I plan to release next year, a bookmark and business cards. I’m updating the table display which includes some new print outs that highlight the tropes and themes in my books.

I’ve got public liability insurance, so if this goes well I’d love to look at some other local events to trial out. I’ve also invested in a new gazebo which we’ve just set in up in the garden in the wind. That should be fun on the day. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain as one reviewer said the gazebo is as useful as tissue paper!

Below is the leaflet with news about the upcoming series set in a Cornish hotel in the fictional town of Lowenporth. I can’t wait to finally getting this series out into the world because it’s been living in my head since 2020.

Secrets of the Italian Guesthouse by Sue Moorcroft #romance #bookreview

This is a great start to a new trilogy, The Italian Legacy, by one of my favourite authors. Like her previous series, The Skye Sisters trilogy, this also follows the lives of three very different sisters, who don’t even know each other exist. Each book will follow a different sister’s viewpoint and I’m so glad we got to start with Jade in Italy. It’s a brilliant premise and the hotel is the perfect backdrop for their stories to unfold.

Jade is the sister with the most to lose, but everything to gain if she can accept her grandmother’s dying wish. I felt sorry for Jade who’d grown up at the hotel and loved running it, but was now expected to share it with sisters she doesn’t know.

The male lead Leo was swoonworthy and their past together made this the perfect second chance romance.

There are several story threads running through this book, each intriguing and had me hooked. Some will no doubt unravel as the series progresses. I loved the romance re-sparking between the couple and the three sisters have a great dynamic.

I can’t wait to read the next installment.

The Little Greek Guesthouse by Lizzie Lee #romance #bookreview

I haven’t read any of Lizzie Lee’s books before so I was really pleased to win a paperback from the publisher in an Instagram competition. It arrived promptly and I couldn’t wait to read it. The cover is pretty and the blurb intriguing and I was hooked from the first few pages with the mess Nina’s life suddenly spirals into.

Nina’s a great lead and her relationship with her father Theo shines through. I also really love her friend, Heather, the schoolteacher who has a delightful way of avoiding swear words.

Kefalonia came alive and all the people in the little town were wonderful to spend time with.
I quickly became invested in the house renovation and wanted Nina’s dream to become a reality against all the odds thrown at her, including her dad’s stubbornness.
I loved the conservation aspect of this book and the geeky, turned hot enemy to lover dynamic with George. Vassilis, the builder, is another story!

Overall, it was a great read and I’m looking forward to discovering more of Lizzie Lee’s books.

I love how the review picked up on the natural magic that is so integral to the world of Kalaya and it reminded me why I chose this type of magic system.

The natural world has always been important to me ever since childhood. I was a member of the World Wildlife Fund and collected anything to do with animals. I used to get monthly wildlife magazines and covered my bedroom walls with posters of animals (and the odd pop star!). I’d watch The Really Wild Show hosted by Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan every week and wanted to help animals everywhere. I even remember having a WWF sticker album when they were all the rage back in the 80’s. I also wanted to be a vet, but writing is much more my thing now. My love of nature still finds its way into my stories and that couldn’t be more evident than in this trilogy.

It’s surprising how childhood obsessions can shape future decisions and creations.

The question of what to write next #authorlife #indieauthor

Hasn’t it been a scorching week! Perfect for sitting in the shade with a book and a cool glass of something special, or maybe an ice cream (my favourite go to snack when I’m lost in a good book).

Over recent weeks, I’ve been struggling with the issue of what to write next.

In my fantasy readers newsletter this week, I posed the question of what I should work on next. The response has been interesting, so I thought why not get some feedback on my blog. Here are the 7 suggestions I made…

1. More short fiction set in the world of my current fantasy books – like Fantasy Short Stories – which I offer free to all newsletter subscribers.

2. A prequel novella to Silent Sea Chronicles where the focus is firmly on Farrell’s people and Stone Haven.

3. A sequel to Silent Sea Chronicles following the lives of the characters after book 3’s conclusion and their adventures on the Silent Sea.

4. Serialised fiction in a new world of wizards and wraiths where you have to trust your enemy to survive.

5. I could re-start work on Starlight Prophecy. I have planned it as a trilogy focusing on an anti-heroine and the lengths she will go to for revenge. No one is safe, not even her closest family.

6. In other writing, I’m busy working on a romance series set in a seaside hotel in Cornwall with a matchmaking landlady. Do you read across genres?

7. I’m also working on some more seasonal short stories for my Winter Warmer Series and want to get Book 3.

It’s not an exhaustive list of my ideas, as I have tons that could be developed. It’s more a case of working out what my readers want and what aligns with my goals, which is to publish something this year. I’d really hoped it could be my romance series, The Mermaid Hotel, but that project is stalling with lack of funds and also lack of inspiration for the cover art, plus a bit of doubt about if the books are good enough yet.

I hope you’ve been enjoying the early May bank holiday. We’ve spent the weekend being typically British and started on the garden with a reward afterwards of a cool glass (or two) of Pimms.

I’ve also joined up with other sci-fi and fantasy authors to offer free books and giveaways during the month of May. Are you ready to find some new authors to follow?

I’ve recently been trying a few new authors this way, the free no risk option is appealing – especially after my recent BookBub ad and the credit card statement that followed! I’m well on the way to making back the money though, so I’m very happy with the result. Results from my Bookbub deal for The Lost Sentinel

Last week I had a BookBub deal for The Lost Sentinel. Sales were not as high as I expected, but still more than I could ever have reached alone.

If you’re thinking of BookBub as a viable marketing strategy, here are my results. Please note – this is book 1 in a completed trilogy. I reduced books 1 and 2 down to 99p each and left book 3 at full price.

I’ve sold over 500 books in April. This is a BIG deal to me! That equates to 349 new readers for The Lost Sentinel, 96 picked up book 2 at the discounted rate and 55 bought book 3 at full price. Plus a couple of other books were sold not relating to the Silent Sea Chronicles series. 11 Audiobooks were also purchased, which is a nice little bonus that I forgot about.

My pages read figure in KENP is higher than its been in a long time, and is rising every day. I hope these readers find book 1 compelling enough to move straight onto later books in the series.

I have only gained 3 new ratings on GR and no new reviews. That is a disappointment but maybe more will trickle in over time. It did only run last week so I can’t expect too much too soon.

I was excited to reach number #7 in the kindle chart in Canada, though it would have been great to reach the No. 1 bestseller slot as I did with the previous BookBub deal.

My final thoughts;

I would recommend Bookbub deals to authors if they can afford to run them, and are lucky enough to be selected (which is very hard!). I will try again when I release a new series, but only once I have several books that the readers can pick up to really make the most of the promo. Other email subscription sites like Book Barbarian seem to have run their course for The Lost Sentinel – I think the readers have all seen it before, or these email ad sites are just not as effective as they used to be.

Mini review

I really loved Juliet’s story. She took a chance walking out on a marriage of 25 years and following her dreams to France.
The water mill she bought and the lovely little village in France where she moved to are both places that came alive and made me want to visit.
Anyone who loves bread will be enchanted with this tale, while I had a real soft spot for a certain Tabac owner who supported Juliet as much as she needed and made a very fitting male lead.
It was a beautiful story of second chances, and there were some emotional moments too. It’s a story I would like to revisit one day.
