Day 3 & 4 Silent Sea Chronicles blog tour #fantasy #bookreview #indieauthor

I’m really pleased to share some more review quotes today. I didn’t get around to sharing anything yesterday so this combines day 3 & 4.

Silent Sea Chronicles Full Tour Banner

Firstly, this is a re-post of an older review and not part of the tour, but I had to include it anyway!  Strawberry Post – ‘Overall this is an amazing and gripping fantasy read… The world of Kalaya is rich and dark and I’m amazed at how sucked into the action I was reading this, and how unpredictable and dark the storyline is.’

Pagefarer Book Blog – ‘…Rogerson’s world-building and ability to weave separate storylines is capable – indeed, multiple viewpoints seems to be part of her M.O.’ ‘…stylistically she paints it all with an economy that allows the reader to meet her in the middle, and invest more in the world and characters she has created…’

Oddsocksandlollipops – A double review for books 1 & 2 ‘…I am loving this series so far! It’s got so many things I love, fierce female characters, magic and some really unexpected plot twists…’

Yesmoreblogs – Another double review split over these two blog posts below.

The Lost Sentinel – ‘I would give this book a 5/5 I fell in  love with it from the start. The world building is really well written. It feels like you’re in the book with these amazing characters and on the beautiful island of Kayala.

The Sentinel’s Reign – ‘I literally read this book straight after the first book and its just as good if not better. I can’t wait for the final book to be released to see how this trilogy will end. This book left a pretty much open ending which has literally had me on the edge of my seat and making me want more. I’ve been constantly thinking about what could happen in the third book. If you can’t tell I’m a bit excited to read it.’

Jess Bookish Life – ‘…one things I absolutely loved, besides the realism that some characters had, was the world building. This fictional fantasy world was so vivid in my mind thanks to all the descriptions. Overall, this is a fantastic adventurous, magical and drama fueled first novel, that took me on a journey and made me wish I could just visit Kalaya…’

Seansbookreviews – ‘Reading the first two books put a smile on my face.  It is a book like no other that I have read before which is saying something as I have read hundreds of fantasy novels.’

Radzy Writes – ‘…if you’re a fan of well crafted, elegantly cultivated novels which you can sink your teeth in for hours upon hours, I’d check this out. Likewise, fans of massive worlds such as Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings, will be very happy with the Silent Seas Chronicles.’

Don’t forget, each book in the series is only 99p for the duration of the tour.

Day Two: Silent Sea Chronicles #blogtour #fantasy #bookreviews

It is day two of the blog tour and I’m excited to share the reviews that have come in so far for The Lost Sentinel – book 1 in my Silent Sea Chronicles trilogy.

The reviews have all been very positive and I have to admit enjoying reading what reviewers have to say – maybe a little too much! Writing is such an insular occupation, so seeing how others enjoy and connect with my characters and story is one of the most rewarding things in the world!

Before I go into one, here are some of the things the reviewers have been saying along with links to their blog posts. Please support them by liking their posts and of course sharing everything on social media. I’d love to reach some new readers during the tour.

Here goes…

Jessica Belmont‘I highly recommend checking this one out. It’s addictive, fast-paced, with some really fantastic world-building. I can’t wait to continue in this series!’

Cheryl’s M & M Book Blog‘It’s high fantasy with solid world-building and an interesting set of characters.’

K T Robson‘With all the intricate world building, interesting characters and epic journey they all partake in, this book had me glued to it from the first page… Suzanne Rogerson has written a fantastic start to this series – I love her writing style, and that she doesn’t shy away from putting her characters through some tough challenges as the story progresses.’

Terror Tree‘…I got drawn into a story that gave me excitement and heartbreak… If you love fantasy and quest than pick up this series.’

Splashes into books‘A very different story, this is an intriguing, magical adventure and a great start to a new series.’

If these wonderful quotes have whet your appetite, the whole trilogy is on sale – 99p/c each during the 10 day blog tour.

Mid year update #amwriting #amwritingfantasy #indieauthor

I haven’t been around on social media as much as I’d like as I’ve been juggling writing projects. I hope things will calm down once my latest book is released on 6th July. More about that in a moment.

What I’ve been doing…

I’ve tried a few new ventures. A craft bookstall at my local high street Staines-upon-Thames, where I met some nice people and managed to sell a few books too. A couple of people bought all three of my books, which was a great boost and made the day worthwhile.

DSC_3845

I shared the stall with G.J Stevens who writes Zombie thrillers. I’ve read his debut In The End and highly recommend it. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to share my review here at some point.

A week later, I joined forces with two authors G.J Stevens again and Katy Johnson who writes mystery thrillers and we ran a pop-up author shop in Eton high street. It wasn’t as successful as Staines, but again I met some interesting people and we hope to run the shop again in July on a couple of dates. More info will follow and I hope to get some more pictures the next time around.

DSC_3863

I now feel more confidant with these type of events and have my public liability set up for a year, so I’m determined to make more use of it! Anyone know any local events we can crash?

Last week I went to Winchester Writers’ Festival and attended a fun workshop about fantasy writing run by Jasper Fforde. I also pitched a new novel idea to two agents and a publisher and received some encouraging feedback along with plenty of ideas to develop the novel. I highly recommend the day and want to thank @JunoGoldstone for showing me around and making the day less daunting.

Writing News

I’ve spent months editing and finalising Book 3 – The Sentinel’s Alliance. Now it’s just the last proofread to do before the big release day 6th July 2019! The pre-order is live, so why not make my day and pre-order a copy for only 99p worldwide.

Can new alliances save the islands of the Silent Sea from the murderers stalking their shores?

Find out in The Sentinel’s Alliance.

SALE ALERT

To celebrate this, and to kick off the 10 day review blog tour starting tomorrow (21st June), I have reduced each book in the series to 99p. That’s all three books for £2.97 – on offer worldwide. How can you resist?

I will share more news about the blog tour run by Rachel’s Random Resources tomorrow, but here’s a quick peek at all the wonderful bloggers taking part.

On the 6th July, the release day for The Sentinel’s Alliance, Rachel will also be running a one day book blitz with 32 bloggers involved. More news to follow. It will be epic!

OTHER NEWS

And onto my other big news, the audiobook for Visions of Zarua is complete and is just going through the checks by ACX. I hope to have a link to share very soon. Any audio book reviewers who enjoy fantasy and want a free code, let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

I have another very interesting project in the pipeline and good news for all the residents of Staines-upon-Thames, I’ll be appearing in a pop-up craft shop in July. I’ll cover this in another post very soon.

That’s it for my latest news, so I’ll be back tomorrow with the start of the two book blog tour. Hope you can join us.

I’ll leave you with the trailer for the audiobook. Guy Barnes, the narrator, composed the music and produced this trailer. It’s brilliant, so please share.

#Indieauthor April Update #amwriting #amwritingfantasy

Hi Everyone

It’s been a while since I’ve been around. I sort of stuck to my plan of a social media ban, and the best news is that I finished WIP The Sentinel’s Alliance – Book 3 in Silent Sea Chronicles! It’s already had beta reader feedback and I’m now working through some edits. Very soon I will be sharing the cover, pre-order links and the blurb.

I’m aiming to publish 6th July 2019 so the next few months will be busy. It will be worth it to finish the trilogy. I can’t wait to see what you all think. Let me know if you want to go on the list of ARC reviewers.

I also have some big news about Visions of Zarua to share very soon and lots of book reviews to come mainly how-to writing guides but also some brilliant fiction I’ve been reading lately.

I’m still on the look out for reviewers for The Lost Sentinel, The Sentinel’s Reign and Visions of Zarua. If you’re interested please comment or use the Contact Me form. The blurbs and goodreads links etc are in this post An appeal for reviewers.

Lastly, before the publication of Book 3 in the Silent Sea Chronicles trilogy, Rachel’s Random Resources has organised a blog review tour for books 1 and 2 starting 21st June. If you want to join in, I think there a still a couple of spaces available.

I will be back soon with reviews, news and I’ll be setting down some targets for the summer. See you then.

An appeal for #reviewers & #bookbloggers to review my #fantasy books #indieauthor

Quote

I haven’t done one of these posts in a while. But right now, book reviewers and book bloggers I need your help!

help-please

I have 3 fantasy books published and I would love to get them reviewed on Amazon, Goodreads and your blogs. Over the last few months I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of pages read in Kindle Unlimited – hitting between 22K and 24K per month!

Those numbers are a dream come true for me, but unfortunately none of these pages read have converted into reviews.

I would love to get some reviews for my books and I’m offering reviewers ARC copies of their choice. We can even run book giveaways for your readers if that’s something that would interest you.

I’m going to the Winchester Writer’s festival in June and I would love to be able to put in my cover letter that I have 60+ reviews and 100+ ratings on Goodreads. Can it be done? With your help, anything is possible!

The magical island of Kalaya is dying, along with its Sentinel.

The Assembly controls Kalaya. Originally set up to govern, they now persecute those with magic and exile them to the Turrak Mountains.

Tei, a tailor’s daughter, has always hidden her magic but when her father’s old friend visits and warns them to flee to the mountains she must leave her old life behind.
On the journey, an attack leaves her father mortally wounded. He entrusts her into the care of the exiles and on his deathbed makes a shocking confession.
Struggling with self doubt, Tei joins the exiles search for the new Sentinel who is the only person capable of restoring the fading magic. But mysterious Masked Riders are hunting the Sentinel too, and time, as well as hope, is running out.

Against mounting odds it will take friendship, heartache and sacrifice for the exiles to succeed in their quest, but is Tei willing to risk everything to save the island magic?

Brogan’s position on the Assembly is uncertain as rumours circulate that he is an exile spy.

After an attempt on his life, Farrell is more determined than ever to build a home for his people on Stone Haven. But the council have their sights set on Kalaya and Farrell struggles to steer them from war.

January 2019 Reading Wrap Up #amreading #fantasy

I feel as though I had a great reading month and managed to read 5 books in January. I wanted to pick a favourite, but with each book being so different I found it very hard to make that decision. Here are my reads…

The Lost and the Chosen by Ivy Asher (see my review here) 5 STARS

the lost and the chosen

This book really surprised me as I haven’t read any paranormal romance before. It was an addictive read and I’m really excited that book 2 is already out. I will hopefully get to read this in February. Check it out of Goodreads here.

I’ve been listening to the Audiobook for Scythe by Neal Shusterman. 5 STARS

My review will follow this week, but for now I will say this book is still in my head and I can’t wait to read the next book. Goodreads link.

scythe

This next one is my first ever Netgalley book – The Gutter Prayer by Gareth Hanrahan. 5 STARS

Again I will review this next week, but can tell you it was a great debut and I’m sad I have to wait months to get my hands on the next book. Goodreads link.

gutter prayer

Finally, and I have to admit this is a cheat, I read my own books! I wanted to get back into the Silent Sea Chronicles world before diving into the draft of book 3, so I read The Lost Sentinel and The Sentinel’s Reign back to back. I also read the draft so far of The Sentinel’s Alliance, but as it’s not finished I can’t count that one. Also as they are my books I can’t rate them, but I will say I thoroughly enjoyed having the excuse to immerse myself in Tei’s world again. I’m so excited to get the next book finished.

Goodread links:   The Lost Sentinel    The Sentinel’s Reign

My Goodreads challenge is to read 30 books in 2019. With these 5 books I am well ahead of schedule and feeling very pleased with my progress.

Here’s a quick peek at February’s TBR…

I promised myself I would be more of a mood reader from now on, but I do plan to read these books in Feb. Any more will be a bonus!

Don’t forget to look out for my reviews of The Gutter Prayer and Scythe this week.

Writing Plans for 2019 #amwriting

arm-1284248_1920

I have lots of plans for 2019  but the biggest and most important has to be completing the Silence Sea Chronicles trilogy and publishing book 3!

For the next few months I will focus purely on this trilogy, which will consist of:

  • Reading and making notes on The Lost Sentinel – book 1
  • Reading and making notes on The Sentinel’s Reign – book 2
  • Reading the draft of The Sentinel’s Alliance – book 3
  • Completing the draft of book 3 as per my outline and notes.
  • When the draft is completed and ready for my beta readers I want to focus on the map of the Silent Sea. At some point I plan to commission someone to produce a map but I’ve decided it’s more important to finish the books first.

Any advice you can give about map making would be gratefully received!

  • Once the book is edited etc, there will be all the usual jobs involved in publishing a new book.

Future writing plans in 2019

I like to set out some of my goals for the year, even though I know I probably won’t have time for everything. It feels good to have a record and I love to tick things off a list!

  • Write the prequel to Silent Sea Chronicles
  • Release all four books in the Silence Sea Chronicles as a box set
  • Republish all my paperbacks with ISBN’s and through a publisher Waterstones recognises.
  • Approach indie bookshops as well.
  • Keep trying to get my books into the libraries.
  • Read ‘Writing Short Stories to promote your novel’ by Rayne Hall and action what I learn.
  • Re-read the 72k partly written novel I am desperate to finish and actually finish it!
  • Outline and draft the novella prequel to the above novel using the techniques I’ve learnt from Couch to 50k and Take off your pants – See below.

Other writing related plans

Reviews

  • Review Couch to 50K by Rachel Tonks Hill once I have used the technique and discuss if it helped my writing.

couch to 50k

  • Review Take off your pants by Libbie Hawker once I’ve used the outlining techniques for some novel ideas. (By the way I chose this as my favourite writer’s guide of 2018 in this post.)

take off your pants

  • Review ‘Writing Short Stories to promote your novels’ by Rayne Hall, as previously mentioned.

writing short stories

Embrace my self publishing journey by

  • Contacting more reviewers
  • Organising a blog tour for the release of book 3
  • Buy KDP Rocket and use it to help with my book categories, keywords, ads etc.
  • Work on getting audiobooks produced for all my books.
  • Create a landing page on my website
  • Decide if I’m ready to set up a mailing list / newsletter
  • Go to writing events including Winchester and Gollancz scifi / fantasy.

Non writing plans for 2019

  • Find a way to get more sleep.
  • Fit in some exercise as often as possible.
  • Get out with the family more.
  • Read what I feel like reading without pressure as per my reading goals posted here.
  • Fall in love with my garden again
  • Be more adventurous cooking

That’s about all I can think of for now. I like to review my goals every quarter or mid-year, so it will be interesting to see how far I get with this list. As I stated at the start, the most important thing is working on book 3. Anything else will be a bonus!

Happy new year to you all and good  luck with your own goals whatever they might be.

Silent Sea Chronicles worldwide #Booksale ends 15th October #fantasy #epicfantasy #99p #99c

Happy weekend everyone. I would just like to let you know that my book sale is coming to an end. But if you’re quick you can pick up both books in this heroic fantasy series for just 99p each. The sale is worldwide so everyone can grab a bargain book.

The Lost Sentinel – Book 1.

The Sentinel’s Reign – Book 2.

two book covers

‘If you’re a loving fantasy fan seeking a tale filled with adventure and magic then you should really give this series a try’ – Pooled Ink Reviews

The Lost Sentinel – ‘Overall this is an amazing and gripping fantasy read. It’s a long book but filled with a lot of great action and a perfect fantasy setting ( there are no fantasy type creatures just humans). The world of Kalaya is rich and dark and I’m amazed at how sucked into the action I was reading this, and how unpredictable and dark the storyline is. The ending is a satisfying one but the story is far from over, it’s only beginning and sets up questions for the next book in the series and I can’t wait to read it!’ – Strawberry

The Lost Sentinel ‘…this story bowled me over, it was an absolutely outstanding epic fantasy and the kind of writing fantasy authors should be aspiring to. The only negative I have is that I’m dreading the wait for book two.’BrizzleLass

The Sentinel’s Reign ‘A super paced story, plenty going off and an ending that makes me hungry for the last instalment. This is a cracking epic saga.’ Susan Hampson Books from Dusk Till Dawn.

‘There is a 3rd book planned for this series so don’t despair if you get to the end and want more. Even if you don’t like fantasy books usually you will like this series, so don’t delay, get your copy today!’ – Alinefromabook

Why don’t you give the series a go and make this authors day. See further reviews on Goodreads.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be interviewed on Lynn’s Books. Lynn was the judge tasked with reading The Lost Sentinel for SPFBO this year. Though The Lost Sentinel didn’t make the cut, she had some great things to say in her wrap up post and it was a pleasure to be interviewed by her. Please head over to read it now.
